Moissanite is a gem, such as diamond, emerald, ruby, sapphire, etc.
"Russian brilliants", "diamonique", etc, are all CZ. Either plain CZ or CZ 'coated' or 'infused' with something to give them more shine and sparkle.
Moissanite can sometimes look like a fantastic diamond due to its increased dispersion/fire/brilliance. But some people say this can make them look fake.
To be honest, I've never had anyone say "oh, that looks *too* sparkly, it must be fake", usually its "that must be a fantastic grade stone".
Both CZ and Moissanite look great when new, but CZ can sometimes go cloudy or milky - especially when exposed to certain chemicals (cleaning detergents, etc).
Moissanite comes with a limited lifetime guarantee that it will never loose its sparkle or shine - so if anything does go wrong with the stone, you'll get it replaced.
If you're going with CZ or something based on a CZ such as diamondnique - then just buy a bog standard CZ for about $30 a carat. Don't bother with all the "coated" and "infused" stuff.
You may have to replace them on a regular basis though over time.
Plus CZ is usually considered as costume jewellery, rather than a 'fake diamond' or anything comparative.
Or spend more and go for Moissanite. Its up to you.
